Privacy
The short version: this site has no analytics, no advertising and no third-party scripts, and it sets no cookies.
This website
There is no analytics package, no tracking pixel, no advertising network and no embedded third-party content. Nothing here sets a cookie, and no data about you is shared with anyone. Fonts are served from this domain rather than a font CDN, so loading a page doesn't tell any other company that you visited.
The web server keeps ordinary access logs — IP address, time, page requested, browser user-agent — which is how any web server works and what the host needs for security and diagnostics. They are not used to build a profile of you.
The contact form
If you send a message, the name, email address and message you type are emailed to the address that handles GameBox support, along with your IP address and browser user-agent so obvious spam can be told apart from real mail. That's used to reply to you and for nothing else. It isn't added to a mailing list, and it isn't passed on.
Ask and it will be deleted. The form also keeps a short-lived, hashed record of recent sender IP addresses purely to stop the same address flooding it; those expire within the hour.
The GameBox app
GameBox has no analytics or telemetry — it doesn't report what you play or what's in your library. Your library, artwork and metadata stay in folders on your own Mac.
Some features do reach the internet, and only when you ask them to:
- Scraping sends game checksums and names to ScreenScraper.fr to look up artwork and metadata. If you enter a ScreenScraper account, those credentials go to ScreenScraper to raise your daily quota. Their handling of that is governed by their own policies.
- Steam scraping queries Steam's public store API and artwork CDN for games you already have installed.
- Mac and Apple Arcade scraping looks games up in Apple's public App Store catalogue by bundle identifier.
- Install RetroArch downloads RetroArch and its cores from the official libretro build server.
None of these send anything about you beyond what the request itself requires, and none of them run unless you start them.
Changes
If this ever changes, this page changes with it. Questions about any of the above go to the contact form or bhprojects.help@gmail.com.
